Fly fishing reel knob

I had log lying around and replaced the plastic knob on my fly reel with a nice wooden one! I first drilled a hole to the right size. I don’t have a lathe so I carefully made a small block using a miter saw. There is probably a safer way but it’s all I have. I then rigged up my Dremel tool by clamping it upright. I used a sanding drum to shape it. I let it soak in polyurethane for a couple of hours then took it out. I let it dry and then dipped it back in, took it out, and let it dry over night. I’m a newbie but I think it turned out pretty good! I do not know what type of wood it is though, someone mentioned it could be white oak…?

Nice job and big improvement! Enjoy your next time on the river and good luck.

Looks like a Galvan reel? I have one myself on my Sage One. Love the idea and you did the reel proud. Thanks for sharing!

It’s definitely similar to the Galvan. I love the cut of the metal for those reels. I looked into those as I was searching for green reels to go with my Pieroway rod. I didn’t want to break the bank though. It’s actually a no-name Yellowstone Grizzly reel. It was significantly less money and I love how it looks. Thanks for the compliment! Tight lines!
