My wife likes bandsaw boxes, so I surprised her with this one for Christmas. Straight off the bandsaw box how-to book’s cover. A LOT of sanding for such a little project. GENUINE faux suede flocking. Made out of walnut with a salad bowl finish followed by bee’s wax/mineral oil paste. She’s happy, which means I stand a much better chance of being happy…

This is a nice box. How did you add the flocking?

Very cool… I’m going to have to try my luck at a bandsawn box someday… I like this design. Wood tone and finish is great also…

Thanks for the kudos guys!
Steve, buy the smallest blade you can for that monster bandsaw you have. You need the 1/8” one to make the tight turns.
Hi Mark – The flocking actually was not hard to do. I pre-finished the piece, not applying finish to the inside of the boxes. Then I used blue tape to mask them off. They sell a glue the same color as the flocking. You paint it on, they just sprinkle flocking on it. I covered them with plastic wrap and shook them to distribute the flocking. You let the glue dry overnight and then shake and brush out the extra flocking. Worked pretty well.
Lew and Dennis – This is one of those instances where some sap wood really adds some interest to the piece. As I strive to learn the art of woodworking, I am trying to pay more attention to the wood itself, how the grain and color can be controlled to add to the aesthetics of the piece. Some of you are masters at this.

Thanks for all the great compliments. This is the most beautiful bandsawn box I have seen and there were several of them displayed at the Christmas Craftsman’s Classic in Richmond this year. Beautiful work, but none as graceful or as well-finished as mine. I love it – thanks, honey!!
