Rustic log chairs and table

Project by dennis mitchell posted 296 days ago 965 views 1 time favorited 29 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I am very pleased with my design of these chairs. They are comfortable. The combination of willow and log have made a very usable sturdy chair. I’ve combined a dark stained hand hewn Alder with Coyote Willow and Knotty Pine Logs. The Chairs are a tall back design. The character of the dark Alder doesn’t show in the photos (Must be the photographer), but in person it makes a great complement to the pine. The pine is salvaged from the forest floor in area subject to forest fires due to the beetle kills. The Alder is a local (Idaho) wood. The Coyote Willow grows on my family farm.

I really like this set. It’s some of your nicest rustic work.

You must have a Logman tenon maker now.

Good Luck Dennis!

I really like the way the chair back spindles go past the seat into the leg stretchers!

Good Luck in the contest.

Really nice. I need to learn how to dry and cure the logs. I am worried about bugs.

Thanks everyone.
Snowdog….why worry about bugs? Some just spray their furniture with pesticide.(Uch!) I just find that bugs are a part of Gods creation. If they did hatch (I’ve never had that happen) They would just fly away.
I use dead logs of the floor of the forest so they are already dry.

snowdog:

I use two methods to debug by rustic materials.

1. I treat the wood with a dilute solution of borax.

2. I sometimes use a solar kiln, or I let my sawyer use his electric kiln.

Boring bees are a problem around this part of Kentucky, as are termites and other beasties.
I don’t like it when customers call about little mounds of sawdust forming under my furniture. :)
