Great looking and I guess it could double as a cutting board.
Nah. Looks better as it is.

Seven species of wood, Paduak, Purpleheart, Walnut, Cherry, Oak, Cedar, Maple all chosen for contrast and color. I had a lot of fun and look forward to making more sawdust.

Thanks McBane,
I barely have access to those species (they’re expensive), except Cherry, but I do have some Walnut and Maple in veneer form.

Very nice! Where does one get that many pieces of wood? I’m just starting out and I have some walnut and a little cherry… but not much in the way of variety to work with…

I picked them up from a local store specializing in hardwoods. one board feet of each ran $35 and produced enough lids for 16 boxes.

I don’t know where you are but at 35 bucks a board foot thats $14,000 a Cubic Metre and the most I would pay is AU$3,000 and thats top of the range. Instrument grade. . have purchased some timber at AU$150 – AU$1500
Admittedly I do buy bulk lots but ??

$35 is the total for seven board feet one of each wood used. Since then I’ve found some cheaper sources for lumber but choices are limited for exotics.
