I picked up a few nice blocks of spalted maple and spalted birch on ebay. When I bookmatched cut the birch I used on this table top I found this knot. It was quite punky and needed to be hardened with some ca glue and needed some walnut filler to plug holes. Between the knot and the black spalt lines it gave me this Owl or Insect face image.
It measures 11” by 12” and 29” H. The base is Walnut.
7 coats of WaterLox with 2000 grit wet sandings in between.
I finished off the table top with several coats of gloss poly.
Thanks for looking.
