My wife saw an item for sale at a recent quilting show and decided it would be easy for me to make. I am waiting for the finish to dry on another project soooooo, we went to a new lumber yard yesterday that specializes in exotic hardwoods and picked up a of piece of Bubinga and Cocobolo. I also bought an excellent piece of Canary Wood for a project in my future, just couldn’t pass up that piece for now.
Here are the two prototypes from a small pen blank we picked up at Rockler, don’t remember what type of wood it is but it works easy. Just drilled a hole down the middle, chamfered the top edges, hand sanded to 150 grit and used Danish Tung Oil for the finish. My wife is planning on using these as gifts for her friends in her quilting class.
Pretty quick, easy, no thinking involved project.
