Cutting Board for my wife

Project by TheQuast posted 307 days ago 350 views 0 times favorited 4 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I made some cutting boards at Christmas for some relatives which was my first ever woodworking project. Start simple right? This time my wife wanted a cutting board that she could keep for awhile since her current plastic one is cut all to pieces and is too small. So I decided to get a little fancier with what I did. A friend had some leftover walnut from a table and chairs project he had finished and he let me have it. Nice huh? So the board is made entirely of the leftover walnut.

I just kind of cut squares and alternated which way the grain was going. Then I used some longer pieces as a frame. The handle was fun to do (my wife wanted a handle) and I honestly didn’t know what the handle would look like until I had it together. Just came together nicely I think.

But really it doesn’t matter what I think…it passed my wife’s quality inspection test and she says it’s exactly what she wanted. Mission accomplished!

Nice use for scraps! Looks great. I agree with the handle. When ever I cut something up, I use the handle to pick up the board to dump the cuttings in the pan.

-- Scrap Wood's the best...the projects are smaller, and so is the mess!

Wow, nice job. I can’t let my wife see this or I’ll have another project to do. . .
