This is a twin size bed I designed and built for my son. The cow catcher in the front opens up and is a small storage area. I built a section of train track that it sets on for enhancing the look. It is built mainly from birch plywood.

That is really cute and what a unique idea, you did a great job on this. I would think you could make a living building these.

Neat idea.
What does Mom think when she has to change the bedding with the mattress all “boxed” in?

No complaints from mom. Makes going to bed fun. This far outweighs any sheet tucking issues.

That is really terrific! I wish i had thought about something like that for my son a few years ago.

I actually bought the plans and made one of this model for my boy, about 3 months ago. He loves it (along with his two older sisters), although the wife and I have to keep reminding the kids that the roof is not a platform to jump off onto the bed with :)

In fact, here’s some “action” shots of it being built: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=31825&l=e6128&id=697538874

Thanks for designing and sharing your idea !

SawdustMill—Thanks for sharing your photos of your Train bed project. The bed looks great. It is alway good to hear feedback from my customers. Have you looked at the doll house bed and dresser for your daughters? :-D.
