Carved this fella’ in a piece of Dogwood. I draw knifed this one pretty clean and finished with one coat of spray urethane. I used just a little oil paint to accent the details of this guy. As usual, I carved him using rotary hand tools (very similar to dentist’s tools).

This walking stick is 50” long and around 1 1/2” wide at the widest point.

“Not Right Now”

You ready to go for a walk? Not right now. You feel like moving yet? Not right now. How bout now? Nope. Okay, well… No, not right now.

Get motivated and get moving with this fella’ by your side. You think he’s glum now, get him sweating….He’s a real de-motivator then. Time to whip him into shape :)

if the worst name I was ever called was a Moron, my walking stick would be weak

thus the double take when I saw the stick : )

Great job on the carving, the way you capture expressions is fantastic. Where did you find such a nice long gently curved piece of Dogwood? I live in Ohio also and around here it either grows straight as an arrow (which explains why Native Americans used it for arrow shafts), or it is so bent and twisted that the straightest piece is only suitable for a short spoon. I have some dogwood on my drying rack but it is very straight, I am growing some curved pieces but I had to use bonsai and espalier techniques to get the shapes I wanted.
