Faux-hollowed vessel

Project by Bob Collins posted 307 days ago 265 views 1 time favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Trying to use up a lot of thin blanks given me. I think this is Ash, not sure, but could possibly be part of a burl slab. I turned each piece individually fitting together with grooves (like the fitted lid) unlike the faux-hollowed vessel which has two halves I have used a number of pieces.

All the hollowing was done with the BOWLSAW and I have now found it works at different angles. Sorry, I
should have taken photos as I went but didn’t give it a thought at the time. Next time I will.

I have no turning experience, but deeply appreciate the beauty you have created.

Gosh, that wood is something else, and I love the shape you did too! Like the wider neck on this compliments the bottom very well. BTW…my birthday is months before Pats! LOL Thanks for sharing!

Thanks to all above for your comments. Anyone else have birthdays for me,I have boxes of bowls and vases stored. BSG. Have Pat’s and Cathy’s, mine was in December and I look forward to receiving the Eagles and the squirrel, better late then never. Did I just hear “as if”.

I love that idea for making a bowl, or other hollow vessel….build up the blank as you make it, experiment with different wood combinations as you go!

Thanks scottb, not only can you experiment with different woods but use up the odd bits and pieces that build up in the shed.
