I designed this game table for a home bar/rec room. The home owner said she wanted a stand-up table such as ones you might find in the bar area of a restaurant. She wanted a place for the kids while the adults entertained themselves. She had some great kids and I thought they should have more than just a table.

The idea for the base came from a dinning room table I had in the shop but the idea for the top was my own. The chess board was made from ash (with fiddle back pattern) and English oak veneers. The bat gammon board was assembled from walnut, maple, and Honduras mahogany veneers. Both were bordered with a decorative veneer border that I ordered from New York. Don’t think I’d do it again, I broke the tips off a lot of the triangles and it got old real fast.

The finish was a conversion varnish made by Guardsman applied as both sealer and topcoat.

I’m including the second photo for perspective.

This table is beautiful. I have been looking at different ways of making a chess board. I wish I had a place to put a table like this. Thanks for sharing.

Gee, a great gaming table…and thanks for the perspective picture…I thought it smaller…but it’s quite tall…

Very impressive gaming table. I’m sure it will have a lot of patrons using it.
