A woman that works at one of my work facilities has always been a sweet, kind, and humble woman. I have passed by and said hi to her for years. I recently found out that she is a published author. She wrote an autobiography starting from her humble beginnings in the South. Upon finding out she was a writer, I told my coworkers, some of whom bought a copy of her book. She was grateful so she gave me a signed copy.
To say thank you I felt it appropriate that I give her something made from my hands as she gave me something made from hers.
Her book is “Alabama Daisy, Growing up Poor and Black in the Deep South.” Reading it, I was amazed that someone who grew up poor during segregation and endured so many trials, could be the kind hearted, gracious and loving person that I know.
I haven’t given it to her yet, but I very much hope she enjoys it.
