Several weeks ago I completed and posted a knock down bottle jack veneer press and a parquetry guillotine.

So I decided to put them to use and make a couple more basket weave boxes. The boxes are made from cherry and walnut veneers over a 1/2” plywood core. They are trimmed along the edges with cherry and walnut strips.

The basket weave is made from cherry and black veneer with a black border.

The interior of the lids and bottoms are veneered with other light coloured veneers that were included in my “pizza box of veneers” from Lee Valley.

Both include a small interior tray.

Each box measures 10 3/4” x 8” x 5”. They are finished with a shellac, rubbed down and then waxed.

Those are beautiful boxes Peter. Your workmanship looks exceptional. The words basket weave were what caught my eye. I like your unique tops.

Beautifully crafted boxes Peter and the illusion in the weave is first class.
Well done.

Beautiful and well made boxes Peter and the parquetry work makes them really sing. You did a great job on the sand shading too. I love the clean design which greatly enhances the top.

really fantastic boxes peter, ive had this in my mind for months, to do a few boxes with the weave in the tops…another woodworker had posted some boxes with the weave on the underside of the top and it caught my eye right off, your boxes are first rate and im going to have to join the ranks very soon of the box weave…thanks for sharing, i really like the darkness in and around the outer part of each on strip…excellent work

That’s a very nice box and must have required a large amount of patience. Congratulations.

The weave pattern has certainly given these boxes a stylish look. The end result is exceptional and highlights your craftsmanship and skills.
