I made this cabinet for my girlfriend for the holidays. She loves to birdwatch, so I made something special to keep all her birdwatching stuff in one place. The carcass is pretty much standard cherry plywood construction. I put a really nice piece of curly cherry on the top though. I wanted some outdoors flavor to it, so I left the edges pretty much the way they came from the saw mill. I just took my orbital sander to them to smooth out the milling marks and prepare it for finish. The handle is a piece of lacewood that I ebonized with india ink.

All I have to say is somebody has to be a serious birdwatcher to have a separate cabinet for the hobby’s equipment and supplies…also it’s a great friend who builds such a cabinet. Excellent job.

The edges of the cherry board are called wain. It makes a nice natural touch for something that represents outdoors.
Nice job.
