Toy Chest for granddaughter

Project by johngoes posted 305 days ago 335 views 0 times favorited 5 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I built this toy chest from a plan I got online for my granddaughter. I built it out of quartersawn white oak with walnut heart inlays using the router/template guide method. The dovetails are hand-cut but I’m not showing closeups because there’s lots of filling around them. Some day I’m going to figure out to cut close fitting dovetails. More practice is needed for sure!

Started around Thanksgiving 2007 with intent to finish by Christmas but got side tracked. Finished Sep 2008 in time for her birthday. She had a blast playing with it.

I’m new to LJ but I’ve had a lot of projects over the years. I feel odd posting old projects here and if it’s not appropriate, let me know.

Thanks,

JohnG

Nice looking toy box.

I’ll put my vote in, show us the old stuff… It’s about what you made, not when you made it!

Heck, if it’s new to us, then post away!

Great chest. The joinery is really nice.

johngoes,
Let me first welcome you to Lumberjocks. I think you’ll really like it here. I think your simple lines in design are elegant and accentuated beautifuly with the dovetail constuction. I especially like the inlayed walnut hearts. I haven’t tried the router inlaying yet, but it’s on my list. Please continue posting older pics’ it’s all new to us! I’m sure she loved the toy box and that it will be with her a lifetime as well! again Welcome and Congratulations on a job well done.
Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis
