Here in the south we love our Guns and we love our pine wood (state tree of Arkansas). So why not combine them both? This is a pine bed with a hidden drawer style compartment in the foot. The drawer rolls out to expose a gun rack to house a four shotguns. No more having to sleep with them under you pillow. Talk about a crick in you neck.
One of the best ways to protect your property is to hide it. Anybody could smash a wooden gun cabinet in seconds if there really wanted what was inside. I guess a gun safe would be better but not as fun.
The footboard and the drawer front is cut, in sequence, from the same board. Doing this made it look like it was a continuous panel with some trim added. Mismatched grain may have given it away. The drawer itself runs on 1 ½ “ casters. The drawer box is made from Russian Birch which is in 5’x5’ sheets. I made the drawer the full length, five foot, of the sheet. Inside the drawer were the gun supports, Sorry I did not get good pictures of them. Basically there were made from 2×4 material, with cutouts, to support 3-4 guns.
I’ve post pictures of the before, but with other items. I wanted to repost this by itself.
Here are some of the building pictures.

Awesome idea and very well done. Mine are just laying under the bed. I might have to “borrow” this plan!

Now that you’ve shown everybody in the nation…well, I woodent worry about me…I’m too far away and honest…but it’s a great idea as long as there is a lock to keep kids out…that’s all I ever worry about.

That bed is right up my alley… great job in the design!
(and yeah, now that you point it out, it kinda does look like a big tongue!.. LOL)

Is there a way to lock the gun drawer so kids and other inappropriate people can’t get into it easily?

Thanks everyone.
mjdinsmore, It should be easy to add a cabinet lock toward the top. It wouldn’t stop someone that is determined to get in. It might even make it more visible. I may just suggest to store them unloaded. lock the shells in a lock box.

Yeah, its tough to make something COMPLETELY lock-proof! Something fairly decent will ensure any playing children aren’t getting into more than they should though. :-)
