This is one I quite like.

For a few months last year (2014) I was “temporarily between jobs” as it is called. I would call it ‘unoccupied’ but this project kept me fairly occupied.

I made this for my grandparents (in-laws) for their 50th wedding anniversary. I found some scrapwood in the back of my shed, sorry, workshop and found some celtic-like designs and I started my first carving project.
This was made using just one knife and a drill and a fretsaw to remove the bulk of the waste.
I’m not sure about the type of wood, but it was just cheap hardwood from the local DIY store. The bottom piece is mahogany though.

The second one was made for a friend of mine who was getting married. I think it’s obvious I had a job by then.
I thought the cow would be nice since my friend is, wel, “into cows”. Which means he is an artificial inseminator.
This was made completely out of spruce wood.
To make the “grass” a bit texturized, I just brushed the whole thing in glue and threw it in the sand and after all was dried up I painted it.
The “fence” I glued together and rubbed in black shoe-polish.

I hope you like it! Let me know!
