Project Information
Hello felows,at this time I would like to share with you a new vise I finished few days ago.
A friend of mine need to buy my version of Moxon vise so I sold it.During the process of making a new one for me I had other idea for new vise (I called hinge vise) and decided to change the project/design.
I love the free área between screws on Moxon vise but this vise go further. All area free on jaws.
The main idea is use hinges for open and close the jaws (as a small gate)during the set time. After that you need only to tight/untight the hanlde. You need to open as a gate only at preset time. The thickness of wood will depend of how long the slots are.
I did it using the hardware I already had at home.A heavy duty hardware will be better and make it almost lifetime.
This vise Works very well.
This is the main idea:
The hinge on left below has to be 90 degrees.
I used padlock hinges because they has the slot ready and I need to make a test before make a more elaborated slots at a wood piece (as a draw shown).
You can make the slot longer if necessary
The other hing is this
Very compact.I inserted two 1/4" screwed rod and epoxy glued. The knobs tight the padlock hinges in place
As an opened gate.Only during the preset time. After you use as a normal vise.
When come with workpiece you insert betwen jaws and tight the handle. To take the piece out only untight the handle but keep on place.Only if you need to change the preset slot position you need to open as a gate
In use
These slots permit wood until 2".To me enough but make long slots for other thickness up 2"
I used a leg of my clamp as a handle
Here you can see the leg of clamp as a handle and the wood pressed at vise (all the space free because no screws on jaws way)
You can use for pieces like this :
You can use in this position too
Thanks for attention
