Here is a bowl that I turned recently and is already in use by my wife… It is made of Euro. Walnut which is a total pleasure to turn! I recommend it to anyone who likes turning as it is not too hard and not to soft it polishes nicely with a rich color! The bowl in the pic is oiled, probably not that spetakular, but I find the simple straight lined for very nice.
I must admit the one thing that really turnes me on about the Euro Walnut is the Sapwood contrast with the beautiful colored heart wood. It is not as dark chocolate colored as Ami. Walnut but I think it is very pretty.
The next one will probably be out of some French walnut if I can get some…. it has a redish pink tone to the wood which is very unique, Apperently Walnut varies in color and greatly depends on the soil where it is growing. I do not know though where this wood came from.
