The shield is Ziricote with bits of turquoise in epoxy for the stars. The stripes are strips of Maple and Redheart.

Ahh Ha! I am planning this same project as a gift for my sister and brother in law who are civil war buffs. I have been trying to sort out the colors I wanted to use. I had thought about red and white stripes but I was unsure of a color for the shield that would look right. I was thinking Purpleheart for the shield, with maple and walnut for the stripes. But your brown looks great.
I’ll use maple dowels for the 35 star pattern, the layout at the time of the civil war. Thanks for posting this! Great to see an example of how to make this work.
Well done!
