This was one of the first big projects I made while I was living in Austin, Texas. I really didn’t know what I was doing but I wanted to try and copy Sam Maloof’s rocking chair. I cut all the wood from my friend’s field of mesquite trees she had cut down to make a horse pasture.

I like it. It’s not your run of the mill rocker. Great job.

Nice wing job. Very creative, looks comfortable. I like the tail piece and the wood. Great!

Very interesting piece, looks like it belongs in a hunting lodge or log cabin porch. I think that is some pretty wood you got in there…. and it definitely looks like it will hold up for a long time. Bet that it is pretty heavy.

Really nice did you feel the need for a tail for aesthetics or strength.I feel it might have worked ok without it but looks equally good with it.Alistair

I felt I needed something to stabilize the back of the rockers so I added the tail and then had to figure out how to make it attractive.

Doesn’t look all that Maloof-ish to me, but that’s okay because you ended up with something beautiful and unique!

I think this is a fine piece …. a very organic feel … exceptional use of what appears to be “natural” lumber.
It will always be a one of a kind, and that is always satisfying.
Nice color, form, and finish…. what more could anyone ask for?

Just gotta love that natural look. Absolutely beautiful and a prime example of foresight.
