baby / dog gates

Ok, we don’t have any children, but we do have two small dog-like critters. The goal was to keep them out of the rooms with carpet so I made these dog-gates. Didn’t take too long and looks better than the plastic ones you buy at the stores. Bonus, you can simply step over them as well.

Wish you had made this earlier so I could have copied it. The puppy is now big enough to roam free.

Great looking project!

Very nice, but you put them in backwards. The dogs are still on the carpet. Maybe try turning the gates around.

Looks pretty good.

It would only work with dogs though. You need vertical bars to keep kids from climbing over.

Those little beggers look way smart like they’ll learn how to jump the fence…keep an eye out for surprises…

That does look like a nice dog gate, but I also agree with GaryK about the kids. The Baby Gate I just built is a similar design but has the vertical slats so our little climber can’t escape. I like your criss-cross pattern though. How did you joing those to the frame?

lumberknowledgist: I joined the criss-cross pieces with glue and a pin-nailer. Hidden inside the framework are some blocks for the nails and stability.

fredf: If you shave a Pomeranian, that’s what’s underneath. You’ll notice his right eye doesn’t glow in the camera flash as he’s blind in that eye. His name is Barney Fife (Barney). His Chihuahua buddy is Captain Jack Sparrow (Jack). They’re both around 8 years old, we think. They’re rescue so we aren’t certain of their ages.

I like the gate, I’m afraid it wouldn’t be much of a deterrant to my Doberman
