This is my second attempt at a Morris chair. The first was… well… fairly hideous, and big, as one would expect a Morris chair to be! My wife decided that since the chair goes in my office, it needed to be smaller, so it’s comfortable for her to sit in while I’m in the office chair.

So, I guessed at some measurements, and adapted a design that I think is from Woodsmith. I also learned why they included some of the things that I decided to leave out. Turn out the real designers knew what they were doing!

My eventual hope is to get it down good enough that I can make these to give to my real estate clients as closing gifts. This one is almost there!

Thanks for looking!

Oh, and it’s made completely from 2×4’s, finished with Minwax red oak stain, and Polyshades walnut.

That would be a sweet closing gift. Nicely done. I think my realtor might have given us a hallmark card… Maybe.

Wife-size . . . Dangerous choice of words! They could haunt you during your trip to Lord & Taylor’s! Always remember, she wears a size SMALL…

Ed, yep. My current woodworking budget is… oh let’s call it restrictive… so its all construction lumber.

Great. Just goes to show that nice projects can be made from material other than expensive fine hardwood!

You plan on giving Morris chairs away as a realtor? You are a lot nicer than the ones in Massachusetts I guess. Very nice looking chair.

Impressive for 2×4 furniture.

And its a much better parting gift than any realtor has ever given me ;)

Great looking Morris chair! Man, you’re a lot more generous than my real estate agent was! And, I like that it’s “Wife Sized”.........!

Good save there!
Interesting approach to the Morris Chair “holy grail” build. Did you use fir? Any photos from the build?
