This my first end grain cutting board. It’s made of Purple Heart and Rock Maple. Inspired by the wood whisperer design.

I’ll give you credit. You picked a pretty complex design for your first one. Not bad at all, but you can see how hard it is to keep the slices lined up during gluing. Using cauls will help greatly. The Wood Whisperer board is a right of passage for woodworkers. I made a few with purpleheart but it burns so easily it took a long time. I made one with Walnut and it was the first one to sell at the craft shows and was much easier to sand.

Thanks, Jim! It does burn easily that’s for sure. I’m looking to get a drum sander. It just took forever using my random orbit sander. I’m a subscriber to woodworkers journal and haven’t been receiving my magazines. just noticed that they have the wrong address on my shipping label (6624 instead of 6634). The March issue has a 10% grizzly coupon. went down to talk to the neighbor at 6624 and they don’t speak a word of English and I speak very little Spanish….No Joy! I will try Walnut for a future project. Thanks for looking!
