I updated this posting after changing color of hardware. Sprayed with Krylon Brushed Metallic Nickel, then rubbed with dark glaze to highlight features of hardware.
My mother acquired this wash stand at some point. Since we had no need for it, and it had little antique value, we changed it to fill a current need. I needed a file cabinet for my home office, didn’t want an ugly file cabinet, and this could be made to work.
I removed the top and added a piano hinge; then took the drawers apart and fixed the fronts to the face frame. Then made a frame to support the rails for the files, and a plywood separation between the file compartment and the lower storage. I also had to remove 1” from the legs in order for the window shutters to clear the top.
Result, a very functional piece for about $15. Will probably change the hardware at some point.
