I updated this posting after changing the color of the hardware. I sprayed with Krylon Brushed Metallic Nickel, then rubbed them with dark glaze to highlight features of the backplates.

My mother acquired this wash stand at some point. Since we had no need for it, and it had little antique value, we changed it to fill a current need. I needed a file cabinet for my home office, didn’t want an ugly file cabinet, and this could be made to work.

I removed the top and added a piano hinge; then took the drawers apart and fixed the fronts to the face frame. Then made a frame to support the rails for the files, and a plywood separation between the file compartment and the lower storage. I also had to remove 1” from the legs in order for the window shutters to clear the top.

Result, a very functional piece for about $15. Will probably change the hardware at some point.

I love the way you re-purposed the wash stand into a filing cabinet. Nice job.

Interesting, I have an indenical one I think. I would send a picture but do not know how, checked it out but have to go through something else and not have one set up. Ours still has the old dark finish, and I do not have the original pulls, i remember them though. We have it just off the kitchen and use it for kitchen linens.
