I needed a one day build for my beautiful wife of 32 years for Valentine’s Day. This build solves a unique space problem in our duplex’s living room. We have a large corner couch that leaves 8 inches between it and the door in exactly the spot that “belongs” to her.
I chose all re-purposed materials for this build. I began with some 5/4 oak from an old desktop that I ripped on the glue lines about a year ago and built a basic supporting box with luan plywood (in natural and black) with 3/4 Maple banding hand planed and sanded flush for contrast. The top has 5 coats of spray lacquer and the rest has 4.
Incidentally the spots on the floor from our recent rains would thoroughly embarrass my extremely clean Valentine… ssshhhh… don’t tell her!
