American Cherry Pie Table top

Nice looking top. The base needs some dressing up (in my opinion). Is is solid, why is it edge banded?

This is the finished product, just not built in… I went to take a pic where it is built in, and well… it was all covered in papers… in my freinds business. So a picture did not work out so well after the montage. So it is here just sitting on sawhorses. It is not solid, so the edge banding is a 5 mm glued on banding material that is in three peices if you look closely you can see probably a seam that is about 30 degrees in one of the pics. the edge banding is there to hide the ugly “FPY” pressboard material( I am not certian the english name)
