I did an entire suite of craftsman picture frames for our home. They are all quartersawn white oak: stained, glazed and then sprayed with urethane.
When I was making these, I was playing with variations of phi (the golden mean) and arrived at the depth and width of the rabbets based on the overall width of the frame. It was alot of fun! (and amazing how the proportions always please the eye).

DocT,
I really like the picture frames. I guess that I have an affinity for QSWO. How many frames did you make at one time? Were the frame widths all the same? I can see several set ups were used to create that framing material. What was the actual thickness of the framing. I know-lots of questions. I’m really not trying to steal the design-LOL. Again thanks for sharing the great work.

Ken,
I made about 45 frames altogether. They vary in width from 4” on the 11×14 photo shown, down to 1 1/8” on some 8×10s. I personally like the larger frames and am especially fond of a 4×6 with 2 1/8” wide format. The 4×6 picture itself gets lost on the photo wall, but with a substantial frame, it seems to invite you over to look closer! As I said in the post, I played around with derivatives of phi, so, there are about nine variations on the theme. I’d like to post more pics, but they all have family photos that I’m reluctant to post.

hey not to change the subject but is that gordon dinsmore printed on the front. I used to work for them when I was going through college. Printed their pictures back when they did that and photographed weddings on the weekends. Great job on the picture frame.
