Great looking table. How did you do the pillar? I like the detail on it and the legs.

Beautiful Mark. I too would like to hear the detail on the pillar.
Thanks for posting it.

Cutting the post is not difficult just a lot of hand work with a rasp. The trick is in the layout this post is a 3 spoke spiral. Therfore you just divide the diameter in 3 zones and draw lines alone the length. Then take the total overal lenght of the area and divide into equal sections based on the pitch of the twist you want then draw lines around. Now your piece should look like a checker board then its just a matter of conecting the dots in the sprial with a saw to start then a japanese rasp and a lot of sanding.

I’ve got to give you credit for all of your hard work . I think that I would have spent a little more time trying to match up some of the grain in the top so it would look like less boards were used . The pedestal and legs look like they are from a different table (more refined) while the top on its side kinda looks like a barn door with all of those different boards in it . JMHO I do like the table overall and the color came out very nicely .

I really like this, although I honestly can’t figure out why the top looks so different from pic 1 to pic 3. It does look really nice, particularly the pedestal. I thought this would have been a machine made item but to find you did this yourself really impresses me. Nice!
