The First Commissioned Box

Project by Douglas Krueger posted 318 days ago 471 views 0 times favorited 5 comments Add to Favorites Watch

After learning on the previous 5 boxes, it was time to put up or shut up and here is the result. As with the previous boxes, the wood is Thailand padoo. The flower/butterfly decal was provided by the client and with his requested box dimensions it would not fit properly on the lid so built a picture frame to mount it in.

This was the first time to cut a circle on the TS after seeing the technique on another website and it worked just as described. The frame was then routed out to recess the decal. The finish is 4 coats of sprayed urethane with 1500 wet sanding between coats.

All in all it turned out ok but the proof with be in the customers satisfaction.

Thanks for looking.

Very Beautiful Box. Are the hinges made out of Thailand Padoo?

Isn’t that beautiful. Love the round top and how it acts as the handle too. Nice job on the round and the inlay, hinges, wood, really nice.

Douglas, you’ve done a great job on this. The T Padoo is beautiful.

Thanks for posting it.

Dennis, yes the hinges are padoo as well, am still trying to perfect them as they function very well but aesthetically they are not there yet.
