Through Dovetailed Small Pine Box

Project by WispWoods posted 304 days ago 600 views 0 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This box is made from some offcuts from my last cabinet piece.

The pine for this project had interesting black “eyes” in it.

The sliding lid has an anatomically shaped front edge, meant to be pleasing to the thumb and index finger.

I like it, what tool did you use to chamfer the edges?

I used a sharp (scary sharp) chisel. Just sat on the couch and carved away one night.

This box was inspired by a box that an Inner Passage student completed.

The lid was my first attempt at edgejoining a thin piece. Couple passes with a good ole No 5 for a quick sprung joint, and two clamps. It turned out so well, IMO :).

great design! I really like how “soft” it looks.

That’s a good looking box: the joinery’s nice and tight; the shape is interesting; and, it looks like something one would want to touch. Great job.

Cheers,
Gary

We see lots of boxes here…but there’s something very likable about this one…the curve in the top…the pull..quite special.

Wonderful box. What finish did you use?

The finish is minimal. Just a couple coats of schellac.

Thanks for looking.

ditto the above… looks like its begging to be opened, and touched.
