A good friend asked me if I could make a bar top for his newly remodeled basement and of course the wood guy I pretend to be, I jumped on it! I was more interested in the experience and opportunity to improved my skills than anything, but certainly flattered someone asked me to do something they have to see every day. I think they may have thought they were asking a lot or even imposing, but its like asking him to take me to a ball game-NO PROBLEM!
Back to the project-its 2 + inch thick Brazilian Cherry, Jatoba. 8 feet long and 3 feet wide and weighs not less than 250. It has 14×100mm tenons (100 total). Finished with General Finished semi gloss Arm R Seal. Thank you Charles Neil for all the finishing videos! To buff it-CLAY BAR! Then waxed with wood wax.

It’s beautiful..,.just curious though, why so many tenons for a simple edge joint?

Ub1chris i was afraid of it cracking or separating. It may seem a little overkill, but after experiencing separation, i just didn’t want it to happen. The tenons were doubled (top side and on bottom side) with a Festool Domino jointer.

that is some nice wood and the project turned out very well. So, did working with it turn your hands black? It does mine. I had to wash them in lemon juice every afternoon.

Very nice work.

Wonderful. I love both Brazilian Cherry, Jatoba, especially Jatoba. Love it. And – I also agree with you regarding
Charles Neil. His advise has been indispensable, especially for finishing. And, what a likeable guy.
