my desk finished

this one was a challenge. the top started out reasonably flat. I ran it through a widebelt sander and then it was dead flat. a few days later it warped like a potato chip. I added bracing and it was flat again. next day it was a potato chip again. the wood was dry to start but I had it laying on the bench without stickering it. I think when I turned the heat on the top got dryer and the bottom didnt. anyway I cut some curfs and flatened it again then filled the curfs on the end with some thin pieces. Its back to being reasonably flat! :-] the desk is sprayed laquer and the top is wipe on poly. the wood is QS sycamore with a little maple mixed in I think. :-]>

skeezics,
Really nice looking desk. I watched it coming together on another website before having to leave. Didn’t you have another desk in the works for your wife as well? That sycamore sure does have a lot of charecter. Hey all those feet look the same to me now! Congratulations on an excellent build!

Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis

I don’t think I’ve seen a piece made with sycamore like this before, it is beautiful. Interesting grain, nice color, and it looks strong as can be. And nice job of dealing with the potato chip problem, you’d never know it by looking at these.
