Man's Valet

I needed to make a small gift for a friends sons High School graduation, so I made this man’s valet out of some Alder that another friend had given me when he moved. I’ve made several others out of Cherry and I’m currently making another one for another graduation, My daughters boyfriends college graduation!
There’s a lot of clamps in the glue-up, and some stress also! But always turns out OK.

Came out nice. I’m sure it’ll be handy and appreciated.

What is inset in the top? I really like the design and compartments. My Valet project will include dividers like yours.

WoodDabbler – Thanks!

TechTeacher04 – It’s Hardboard with Naugahyde vinyl fabric glued to it, I also lined the drawer with the same material. Since Naugas shed their hydes they aren’t harmed in the acquisition of the hydes.
I have the plans at home and will look them up & let you know where they are from.

Hi, A newbie here!!!, Great design & Great to see the build process too – a part often missed on some forum posts which only show the end result & not the processes involved, Keep up the great work – if i saw it for sale I’d buy it!!!

CornishWoodWorker – Thanks alot!

All,
The plans were from Wood Magazine April/May 2005; Titled At-Your-Service Dresser-Top Valet written by Owen Duvall and Chuck Hedlund.
I’ve bought 1/2” thick craftwood before from Wall Lumber, http://www.walllumber.com/ and it worked fine and saved some milling time. This particular box was re-sawn and milled from a 3’ long 2×12 rough cut knotty alder.
