FireSong Flutes #12

Project by drbyte posted 935 days ago 374 views 0 times favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is a flute made by special request of someone who found out I make them. This is my first actual ‘commissioned’ and sold flute. It is Black Cherry with a hand carved ‘campfire’ bird made of Walnut with a Beech base and with burnt in details. I have chosen the campfire as my ‘standard’ bird because of making music around the campfire and my chosen name ‘FireSong’. The burnt rings at the foot were done with a stainless-steel ‘burn wire’ to represent the four winds. It is in the key of G with a 3/4” bore. Overall length is 22”. The ‘bird’ is tied on with leather thongs. This is my best one yet, very clear tone and good tuning. I hope the requester gets as much enjoyment playing it as I did in making it! Hope many more will follow.

Really nice work Dennis. Is the flute the only musical instrument you make?

Thanks for the good comments guys, really appreciate them. I will try to get a recording up on my web page soon so you can hear it. This is the only instrument I make from scratch. I do some guitar repair work and hope to make a guitar one of these days.
