This is my latest project. It is a bookshelf for my 2 year old son.
Update:
Wow, I really wasn’t expecting any comments on my work. Thanks!!!
Here are the details on the bookshelf. It is made out of 3/4” MDF (aka it’s heavy).
I used 3 coats of plain High Gloss paint made for cabinets. I sanded using 220 grit paper between the coats. Also used a very fine sponge roller to give it that smooth look.
Here is a picture of the SketchUp drawing that I created. For the most part the dimensions are the same as the actual piece. If you are anything like me you now that the finish product is never the same as what you start out as.

The project is beautiful …how about some details about it ?

Nice lines. Woodworkers tend to be anti-paint, but a well-made painted piece like this can be very elegant.

Bookshelves are next on my project list for my son too. Can you provide some simple specs on wood type and overall dimensions? Is there a standard depth that most woodworkers use for shelves? Also, what type of paint did you use? Also, did you brush, roll or spray? Thanks, and really great work there.

I am a big fan of the fine foam roller. Some criticize (and I understand) that the foam roller can leave a slightly dimpled look. I feel the tradeoff is worth it because of the rollers ability to apply an extremly even coat of paint with little chance of drips and no brush strokes. I also find the roller faster than brushing. I imagine the specialty cabinet paint you mention improves results even further. I will give it a try. Thanks!
