This is probably my most favorite table.
I made a jig to bend and laminate glue the curved strechers and lapped them with a lap joint.

That’s a great looking table. I’d like to build something similar to that. The bent stretchers are a very nice touch.

That is a stunning piece! It’s fancy, but not over-the-top gaudy. Just the right blend of class and pizzazz.

OK – That is incredibly beautiful!

But we need to work on something here – 3 pictures! You are taunting and torturing us with just 1 photo of this museum quality work.

And I see other tables in the background, OK your killing me now. This is worse than a great season cliffhanger.

I fully understand why this may be your favorite table, Ron. This is a beautiful piece that appears to be very well made from a wisely selected choice of woods. That is a winning combination for sure!

This is a beautiful table. I’d like some details on the construction of the top – is the maple veneer or solid wood?

Beautiful table indeed, I am also interested in the construction of the top. I’ve been working on the design for a coffee table and end table set in curly maple and a darker secondary wood…I was thinking of perhaps Bubinga….your table has almost made it a certainty for me :).

Ron -
This is a beauty – I am beginning on a sculptured rocker in bubinga – the wood really glows.
I to am curious about the quilted maple panel – is it solid wood or a veneer… Are you worried that wood movement in that panel is going to open the bubinga miters?

Thanks for all the complements.
I made this table in 2005 and sold it at the first show I took it to. I should have taken more pictures.
Now that I found this site and so many of you document and photograph the design and assembly process, I think I will start doing the same.
The quilted maple is a solid piece… I used a lot of biscuits. I used figure eight connectors to hold the top to the base.
The finish is waterlox medium sheen about eight applications with 2000 grit wet sanding between coats.

Ron, if I may ask…...The top construction: How exactly did you accomplish the corners/joinery? I see you mentioned biscuits…..but it looks in the picture like you used miters for the for the corners of the bubinga. Are you not worried about seasonal movement seperating the miters, or am I missing something in the pic?
