Kitchen island

Project by Peloton posted 328 days ago 442 views 2 times favorited 9 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Originally the island was a dark green granite tile that was improperly installed by the builder. Also, the island was much smaller, stopping just past the retractable fan. I used extended the surface area about 20 inches, added new tile, and installed bookshelves as requested by my wife. The bonus of the shelves was they acted as a support for the heavy overhang. The toughest part was matching the trim finish to the existing faux antique finish. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and very happy with the cost vs the other options we explored.

This was my first project in the new house and the first of this magnitude.

First of all , that is a great looking kitchen and I think your fine island really added a lot to it ! The bookshelves certainly are a great addition to the piece : )

That is a gorgeous island. Your wife’s idea of including the bookshelves was a nice touch to the island that added functionality as well as form.

Nice project. You should be proud of both your “engineering” of the project and your wife’s design. I am sure that, given the success of this project, there are others that will be “assigned” to you.

I’m just in the process of designing an island and really like what you’ve done, especially with the shelves. I’m going to modify my design to do this as well. Great job and thanks for sharing!

You did a great job. It’s definitely a talent to improve on an existing piece and make it look original. Good job!
