These are a few Hanukah Toys that I made for my daughter.
They are made of Apple-wood, and were the first project I got to use the bandsaw.
These are similar to a Top, but they have 4 sides, and a hebrew letter on each side representing a word in a 4 words phrase that says “a Big Miracle Happened There” if you live OUTSIDE of Israel (as the “there” refers to Israel) OR “a Big Miracle Happened Here” if you live IN Israel.
The miracle referred to is the miracle that kept the oil can full to last 8 days to light the menorah.
The funny thing is, that right after completing all the cuts, this Draidel would not spin- apparently the top was so sharp that every little thing would knock it off balance, I had to flatten slightly the bottom of these to give them a more forgiving pivot surface to spin on.
Happy Holidays everyone, and a Happy New Year!

Happy Chanukkah… I had plans to make a dreidel for my boys this year, (it’s the first year that my oldest is “getting” the concept of the holiday!) but lots got in the way…
Nicely done!

Thanks everyone.
and Karson – NO, no more relatives that are fighting. don’t want to shift the focus on this project in a political way – so I won’t ;)
Peace!

i made HEAPS of these for my daughter class – they were very nice. i managed to make one every 2 minutes – not a bad rate. most of the time was marking and erasing. i have also found this fact about flattening the bottom to make it spin longer.

I have a little dreidel. I made it out of wood. And when it’s dry and ready, I see that it was good…
Fine job, PL!
