This is made from white oak and walnut. I planed down white oak boards to about 1/2 inch, and the same with walnut. I edge glued the oak together and then the walnut. Then I stacked the two on top of one another, used drywall screws to secure them together, then drew out the pattern on the oak. I used the jigsaw to cut out the patterns, then swapped every other piece, walnut/oak, etc. So the top and bottom are just opposite of each other. Used biscuits to join the pieces together then laminated each piece to plywood to prevent movement. Finish is sanding sealer and lacquer, sprayed.

The positioning of different woods is amazing. Thanks for the info about preventing movement. Nice coffee table!

Marquetry writ large! Very nice. I’ll have to keep this technique in mind.

Wow, that is great work, and a good idea, I better now let my wife see this one, or she will be after me to try it. I am learning, but that may be a bit out of my skill set.
