Here is a folding chess board I got a commission on. It is made from maple and walnut, then yellow heart and purple heart for the pinstripe and padauk for the boarder. I used a leftover piano hinge from another project to hinge it. I finished it with Min-wax high gloss spray on polyurethane. I had trouble getting the finish right on it. The wind blew the skylight off my trailer and it rained on the board over night. It kinda sucks not having a shop. But I set it out to dry in the sun and then sanded it to get it right again. I am diving into more finishing now and there is a whole world of different theories out there. I want to start using lacquer and polish for a project like this. I think it would look better and although it would take longer to cure, it would be totally worth it.
