We found out over Christmas of 2014 that our 1st grandchild is expected in July of 2015. My daughter-in-law requested I design and build a child’s stool similar to the one she received when she was a child.
I designed the new stool in Google Sketchup using a “plump” font for the letters. I printed out the top of the stool with the letters and white Elmer glued it to the top. This was my pattern for scroll sawing out the letters.
I used maple for the top of the stool. It is made up of 2 layers of 3/4” thick maple. You scroll saw the letters out of the top 3/4” piece, then glue the 2 top pieces together.
I used 3 rounds of 220 grit and polyurethane on the top and legs. I used Hobby Lobby non-toxic acrylic paint for the letters.
If you are interested in seeing my trials & tribulations in building this project, see my web site.
Hopefully my new grandson will get many hours of fun playing with the name puzzle on top of the stool.
