Shovel re-handle

While camping at Lake Powell a few years ago I lent this shovel to a guy with a stuck motor home. I should have reminded him it wasn’t the pry bar combo model of the digging variety. With the recent purchase of a lathe, I am glad that I held on to the broken pieces. I turned it to size from a 8/4 hickory blank. I think It came out great for only being one of a handful of turning projects. It is definitely a better fit than the original. It does feel good to rebuild or improve upon our tools to give them another life. This was a quick and rewarding project that returned my favorite pack shovel to the truck.
