Walnut Candle Holders So, I had this little piece of walnut, about 5×12 x 3/4 inch, and it had this little corner where there was a sort of natural edge with sap wood and bark. My first thought was to cut it off, true up the piece and resaw it for a small box or something. After I decided to keep the little funky corner, I decided to feature that little area of “naturallness”.
I made two small candle holders, where the design allows the frosted glass cups to transmit the candle light down to the surface under the holder. The top has an open channel down the length, and the cups are supported by a narrow bar, dadoed into the legs, which are set into the top pieces at a 10 degree angle. Each holder is about 11 inches long and 2.75 inches wide…....finished with satin poly. Very simple and minimalistic, but the effect is quite striking. A fun little build….

Nice design with the knot and sapwood which gives it a nice but somewhat rustic look and the light iluminating the area below the holder is also a nice feature .
