To finish up using some Walnut, and to give my Aunt a Christmas Present… I found a picture of one 1/2” by 1/2” and came up with the design. First use of wood in a book matched top. 14” Bandsaw to resaw the walnut and then I used my planar to finish the size… Works great… Need to make a better resaw jig. 15” deep, 28” long,, and 19” high. Finish is TungOil with a wipe on poly. The bottom has some aromatic cedar,, smells nice when you open the box. I finished this 12/23/08, for a family gathering on 12/24/08,,,, I cut this one real close…. A few more hours and I get to see her reaction… We draw names for Christmas,,, and now everyone wants me to draw there name….. I am glad everyone thinks so highly of my stuff.

The glass panels are a great idea. Did you use tempered “safety” glass? I know a couple of very accomplished quilt makers who would love such a chest to protect and display their works. I may have to borrow your idea some day.

Gorgeous quilt box. I love the top. How can I submit my name for the Christmas drawing?
Thanks for sharing.

post a photo with quilts in it. I’d be very interested in seeing that. Glass box is a great idea. Is this your original thought or did you see one before like this ?

Below is a link to a site that shows one with a glass top made by David Sobel. Personally, I like the one here made by Sheldon better, it is a great choice of wood and character.

There was a picture in a catalog somewhere,,, it was cut out, and the question “can you make this?” was asked.
That is how I get into a lot of things.
So I set my eyes on a design and size that would work.
I used just standard window glass,,, I have a lot from when I had all my windows in the house replaced.
3fingerpat – From a design point I do not like the glass top… But thanks for the link
