I thought it would be fun to exhibit one of musical automatons, XyloSpider, at the gallery where I sell my work. The owner was worried that someone might destroy it, so she posted a sign that read, “DO NOT TOUCH – PLEASE ASK FOR ASSISTANCE”. Bad idea. :( If anything, the sign seemed to encourage people to mess with it. It finally got so bad that she asked me to pick it up before she had to send it home in a bag.

As she was saying farewell at the gallery, her last words were, ”!@#$%^ idiots, I don’t know why they can’t let it be.”

And then I remembered that Kikkerland offers a hank-cranked Let It Be musical movement. EUREKA !!!

So tomorrow, my Wagging Finger – Let it Be musical automaton is headed for the gallery. The owner’s already made a new DO NOT TOUCH sign, and I’m throwing in some candy as additional bait.

We’ll show ‘em.

I made a little video with modest credits. :) https://vimeo.com/117687475

I’m the first one to start tinkering with things to see how they work. No sign would keep me off. Cool idea with LET IT BE. Too bad you couldn’t use a different finger. LOL.
That is as sweet as it gets. Nice work John.

Hilarious! Another great one, but you know as well as everyone else that no one is going to ” Let It Be”. LOL

Serendipity!

- CFrye

Candy: As I wrote—“I’m throwing in some candy as additional bait”—I felt a strange presence in the room.

And Serendipity just happens to be the name of my gallery.

Hmmm.

Ivan: I’ve come up with a formula for making my gears that’s based on plastic toy gears for children. Because of that, they’re pretty forgiving and don’t require a great deal of accuracy. I bore the gullets on my drill press and then cut the remaining waste on my scroll saw. For the finish, I soak them for a couple hours in WD-40. Besides lubricating them, it seems to harden them.

Gene: Now you’re makin’ me cry. :(

Mike: I’ll bet you would. :)
