Catapults for my nephew

I built this pair of catapults from scrap oak (and MDF for the base) for my nephew for Christmas. The only part of this project that was more fun than finding an awesome way to use up some scraps was seeing my 4 year old nephew’s reaction and watching him play with them. The design is 100% my own, so not knowing how it would turn out, I was pleased to see that the trajectory ended up being perfect. It shoots about 15 to 20 feet, though I suppose you could make it shoot farther by adding more rubber bands. I haven’t tried pushing it the max, but I’m sure my nephew will.

Nice work on those catapults. I made a few also (posted here in my projects). Our Grand Kids loved playing with them.

Looks great, but are you still on speaking terms with whichever sibling is this tot’s parent? :)

Perhaps your next build will need to be a projectile-proof china cabinet to give them as a peace offering.

first off, nice catapults. i’ve always been a fan since my days of playing the great 80s game, Crossbows and Catapults.

also, i’ve always thought it would be an awesome idea for a bar to have adult pine wood derby leagues.

You be careful now, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
Way cool toy. Can you post the plan? Please.

@ Luddite, (Terry)
These Catapults are a blast to play with. I made a comment on jumberlock project eariler and just noticed that Terry was asking about Plans. I have plans to make the Catapults on my page that may help you.

@Luddite, I just finished making a sketchup of the catapult, and then I realized there’s no way to attach them to this project. Any idea how I can share it with you? I was going to try and send you a message to see if I could attach the file to a message, but LJ’s says I can’t send a message until I’ve posted at least 5 projects, and I’ve only posted 2 so far :( Let me know if you know of a way to share the sketchup file.

Have your say...
