This was my very first hand cut dovetail project. It’s ugly and there are some sloppy joints, but I wanted to post so I could (hopefully) document my progress. I used 4/4 poplar – milled to about 13/16”. Finished with boiled linseed oil and poly and mineral spirits mixture. My mom really liked it so I let her have it. I got the plans from Tommy Mac.

Nothing sloppy. Whats your opinion on the veritas saw so far?, been trying to get a decent old user off ebay, but if the keep going up to $50 I’d rather buy a decent new.

Jsuede – It’s a good saw, but I don’t have much experience with backsaws. The spine is pretty stout, which keeps the chatter to a minimum. I’m very happy with it. Pretty soon I’m going to need to learn to sharpen it! My wife called Lee Valley at Christmas and asked for any rejects/imperfects – which is what she ordered. I think she got free shipping and a 15% discount. I couldn’t find the imperfection.

Have your say...
