My basement is almost finished – can’t wait to show the final result. This was a quick side project – decided that while I was putting in built-ins for entertainment, I might as well put in a built in behind the bar to hold alcohol and glasses. I happened to be at Home Depot last week and saw an IN STORE SPECIAL on pine 1X5X4 for 1.25 each. I ended up buying the entire pallet. I jointed a bunch and glued together to build the majority of this built in. The designer (wife) wanted a distressed look to go with the industrial theme we are going for in the basement. So I distressed each piece and glazed to pop the grain as much as possible. The single most expensive part of the bar was the mirror back which cost 44 dollars at Lowes. I still have glass being cut for the cabinet doors holding the glasses, but didn’t want to wait to share.

The final look is amazing – pictures don’t give any justice.

dying to know what you think – not bad for 120 bucks!!

I think it looks fantastic! IS the glass for the doors going to be frosted?

That looks really nice. Good job on the wood find.

I could kick my arse! Recently, I too, was in the HD and saw a pallet of 1×4 x 4 footers for some ridiculously cheep price. Still don’t know why but I didn’t buy any. I returned a few days later and they were gone. Dang it!

You certainly got your money’s worth out of this project! It looks great—but would look even better with a few bottles of bourbon on it!

Really great job. I am jealous, the bar on my page cost a hell of a lot more than 120 bucks!

Sweet. I can’t wait to create my bar someday. The upper cabinets in the kitchen are getting crowded.

Of course I can’t properly admire your workmanship unless you mix me up a Jack and Coke first :^P

Looks great!
