I had an order from a fellow who wanted something special for his Dad. He liked the extra fancy cane I made for my husband http://lumberjocks.com/projects/11506 . I had an odd shaped piece of really nicely feathered Claro Black Walnut and I tried to use as much of the wood to show off the pattern as possible. There was a live edge on one corner which prevented me from shaping the short knob as I usually do, so I extended it down to follow the grain. I love the way the wood feathers and the light catches all the different colors and directions of the grain. The collar is made of Brazilian ebony, which will oxidize and turn black with exposure to UV light. The Sapele shaft has a nice irridescence to it that I think goes well with the handle. One can become mesmerized if you look at this stuff too long.

Yours are really elegant canes. Beautiful choice of wood on this one. Your seams and lines are flawless. Super.

I can see how that handle would be mesmerizing! Almost makes me want to have a cane and carry one around, even if I don’t need one. You may very well bring back the age of the cane. (I’m just not going to wear a Top Hat!
